ACUPUNCTURE & HERBAL MEDICINE

Acupuncture and Infertility
Acupuncture significantly increases the success rate of pregnancy during the
treatment of Infertility and IVF.
You may wonder why? That is because acupuncture has shown very effective
in relieving stress, improving egg and sperm quality, regulating hormone
balance, and reducing the risk of miscarriage. On its own, acupuncture can
be seen as an alternative way of treating fertility problems. It is also often
seen as a complementary therapy to Western fertility treatments (IVF, IUI, etc.).
In fact, this ancient and natural approach becomes more widely used during
the treatment of infertility and IVF around the world. Over the past twenty years,
Dr. Xie Yin has helped many infertility patients successfully get pregnant with
acupuncture alone as well as in conjunction with IUI and IVF.
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine can help alleviate the most
common conditions associated with Infertiliy.
Elevated FSH level, hormone imbalance, PMS, irregular menstruation, difficult
implantation, recurring miscarriage, PCOS, endometriosis, immunological
issues, aging eggs (if you are over 35 years old) and thyroid problems, have
been associated with infertility and pregnancy loss. Western medicine focus
completely on individual parts of the body, -a disease or an organ- and only
treat the symptoms but not the underlying causes that might make a couple
infertile. The same is true when it comes to modern reproductive medicine's
isolated treatment of infertility. Dr. Yin looks at the whole patient, seeking
imbalances in the system rather than focusing on a particular disease.
Acupuncture treatments and herbal chinese medicine restores the body's
normal function, allowing the patient to concieve.
Acupuncture and Egg Quality Improvement
Before you begin an IVF procedure you should use any means possible to
improve the quality of your eggs, rather than the number of eggs produced per
cycle. Acupuncture maximixes the blood flow to the ovaries to ensure a
constant and steady supply of hormones and nutrients they need for the
normal growth. Healthy blood flow can increase follicle and egg health and
quantity,. This is especially true for women who have a poor prognosis either
because of age or previously failed cycles.
Acupuncture and Sperm Quality Improvement.
It still takes a man and a woman to make a baby. Most men are better at
hiding their feelings if they can't father a child. Dr. Yin knows how important
fertility can be to a man's self worth. Almost all aspects of male infertility can
benefit from acupuncture treatments. Sperm count, sperm motility and sperm
morphology and quality can be increased and even hormonal factors can be
resolved by restoring balance to the entire body.
Acupuncture and Hormone Balance
Hormone balance plays a significant role during the conception process.
Without a proper balance of various hormones (FSH, LH, progesterone,
prolactin, etc.), women could experience no ovulation or poor egg quality,
irregular menstrual cycle, and even miscarriage, possibly leading to infertility.
Regular acupuncture treatment can be very effective in regulating hormonal
imbalances. It is considered to influence the hormonal regulation centers in
the brain and autonomic nervous system (i.e., the
hipothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis) and as a result, improvement in hormonal
status can occur.
Acupuncture and Stress Relief
Rising levels of stress can lower a woman's fertility by disrupting her hormone
balance and in some cases prevent ovulation completely. Such imbalance
can lead to irregular or missed menstrual cycles and may cause the fallopian
tubes and uterus to contract, thereby inhibiting the movement of the egg into
the uterus. When diagnosed with infertility, many patients feel helpless and
no longer in control of their lives. When patients seek insemination or
assisted reproductive treatment, it can be stressful and some of the hormonal
medications can cause mood swings, headaches and fatigue which further
increase their stress levels.
Acupuncture is a holistic method that integrates the body and mind and
balances emotional distresss, increases relaxation and helps women with
hormonal dysfunction or unexplained infertility. However, 80% of women will
restore fertility after lowering stress levels. Acupuncture works to alleviate
stress by stimulating the central nervous system and increasing the
production of endorphins and encephalins, which are naturally occuring
chemicals in the body that improve a person's mood and overall feeling of
well-being. Acupuncture improves circulation of blood throughout the body,
which oxygenates the tissues and cycles out cortisol and other waste
chemicals. The calming nature of acupuncture also decreases heart rate,
lowers blood pressure and relaxes the muscles.
Acupuncture and IVF Support
Acupuncture as a complementary approach is widely used in IVF procedures
around the world. It can help you prepare your body physically and mentally
during and after the IVF procedure, and mitigate some of the difficult side
effects caused by some of the medications as well as improve response to
The initial phase of treatment involves regulating the menstrual cycle by
clearing the congestion in the pelvic cavity, and nourishing the deeper vitality.
The effects of acupuncture will be the normalization of your hormone levels, or
the shrinking of your endometriosis, or the enlivening of your ovaries. Within
this phase most women will become fertile and open for conception. It has
been shown that the IVF success rate is greatly improved if acupuncture
treatment is applied 3 to 6 months before IVF cycles and 30 minutes before
and after IVF embryo transferring. Acupuncture helps to increase the uterine
blood flow and make the lining of the uterus more receptive to receiving an
embryo and reduce the risk of a miscarriage.
A email from our infertility patient
Acupuncture worked for us! I began receiving
acupuncture treatments in November of 2010. We
had been trying to have children for 3 years. We had
tried every fertility treatment available, including IVF,
before trying acupuncture. I went in for a
consultation and began treatments immediately. The
treatments were very relaxing and at the end of
December 2010, I found out we were expecting our
first child. We were blessed with our beautiful baby
boy at the end of July 2011 (5 weeks early but very
healthy). I attribute all of our success to
accupunture. Thank you so much!!!
